HOW stupid can people be?

DO NOT LEAVE YOUR CHILDREN IN YOUR CAR. THEY COULD DIE (via Pam's Blend Last year 35 children died in the U.S. because some negligent parent left their children in LOCKED cars, 10 so far this year. The average is 29. This grandmother was the latest. At first I thought maybe, just maybe, she was a very elderly woman who maybe had a lapse of mental acuity. No, she was a 32 year old grandmother who just doesn't have any mental acuity.
I sorry to rant, I just can't find any excuse for this. There are still people in this country that don't GET THIS?! It's common sense enough (who HASN'T gotten into their car after it being in the heat for even just 10 minutes and noticed how extremely hot it gets?) and its reported often enough that you'd think even the most out-of-touch parent would just know. It's been so drilled into me that I used to get nervous shutting the door to _walk around the other side_ to get my daughter out. (I know, irrational) I assume the grandmother feels absolutely horrible for what she did, but I'm having a bit of a difficult time understanding what she was thinking. "Oh, I'll just leave my 2 year old in a locked car when it sweltering hot outside. He'll be just find". Children get hurt or die from parental lapses of judgment all the time. I would suspect that many are forgivable, hindsight is 20/20, not everything is common sense, etc. but this, this is criminal negligence. Thinking about leaving your toddler or infant (or pet for that matter) in the car while you go somewhere for a 'couple minutes'? DON'T. It's stupid, its criminal, its deadly. ok, feel better now. Rant over.

It amazes me. You'd think people would have heard enough horror stories to know better than this. I don't know what possesses people to do this anyway. When we're out, if Parker needs to stay in the car (i.e. if he's having a meltdown) one of us stays in the car with him with the car running and the Ac on (and the doors locked).

Ya don't have to be a rocket scientist to understand that sitting in a sweltering car is deadly for just about anyone, especially kids.

32 year old grandmother? I'm 32. I can hardly imagine myself as a potential parent yet let alone a grandmother.
