In addition to our bit of family activism, Emma had a wonderful Easter. We never really have celebrated Easter in the traditional way, nor would she remember it, so in a sense, this was her first Easter.. and it was a special one for her and us.
She got to spend some time with her adored cousins and her aunt Beth and grandmom and grandad Lathe over the weekend. She couldn't stop talking about them before during and after. The night before she got to play with her cousins and they all decorated Easter cookies together and had a lot of fun.
Later that night before Easter morning, I explained to her that the Easter bunny would come in the night and leave her a basket of Easter Eggs and candy. (yeah, yeah, I've totally given in and lost my principles.. no more angst about Santa... or the Easter bunny... well... at least greatly reduced. She asked me how big the bunny was and I gestured that it was about a foot tall. With great logic she asked "how would it carry my basket?" whereupon I changed my assessment of the bunny's height to about 3 feet. She was satisfied that it could carry it's burden. We settled in to bed.
As she was falling asleep, she seemed restless...She kept looking over towards the door and I asked what she was looking for. She said she was scared the bunny would come in and bite her. Even though I insisted that the Easter bunny doesn't bite, she made me promise to tell the bunny to put the baskets in the other room and not come in. I promised :).
The next morning we got up and even though she went into the other room and saw the baskets and goodies, she was very patient and sweet and waited for her cousins to get up. When they did, they got there Easter goodies. Emma got an Easter basket from aunt Beth and one from daddy and papa and a bag of Easter goodies from grandmom and grandad (ok well, the Easter bunny). Emma was estatic with all the goodies.
"It's JUST LIKE HALLOWEEN!!" she exclaimed.
I guess a basket of candy and dressing up...
We spent a bit of more time with our family and then drove down to DC to attend Easter services at the National Cathedral. Our friend had got us tickets to it and we met him and his friend there. Emma was decked out (and yes, we have photos but I need to upload them) in her black and white dress. She fell asleep within 15 minutes of the service and woke up at the end.... getting up early for the easter bunny was tiring. The service was beautiful.
Later we had a brunch with friends and then walked the gardens of the Cathedral with some other friends from DC. That evening we went to supper in Georgetown and got ready for our date of the White House Easter egg roll.
All in all, a great weekend with family, church going, goodies and egg rolls.
