CNN has an article about the Easter Egg roll at the White House (link fixed) which we'll be attending. So far not protests by the religious right are expected (or at least haven't been mentioned. That's a good thing. I really don't want to have to walk Emma through a bunch of screaming hateful people. And really, if they knew better, they'd know the best way to respond is not to. Their response will only heighten the focus on GLBT families, which I assume they don't want.
but it was this statement in the article that I just found a bit hilarious and hypocritcal...

"I think it's inappropriate to use a children's event to make a political statement," said Mark D. Tooley, of the Institute on Religion and Democracy.
Wait, this is from the same ilk who hatefully bring up the spector of pedophilia everytime they talk about gay men or families?
The same ilk that label their groups 'pro-family' and 'pro-child' and name them things like Focus on the Family or American Family Association?
The same ilk who trot their children out in photo-ops or when writing as a badge of good ole American values?
The same groups that use slogans like "Think of the children" when trying to limit our rights and use children in their political ads and materials?
And they can, with a straight face, say _we_ are using our children to a political end?
Hypocrites.

Ignore it. Children deserve to see representations of loving families prominently displayed. Children, whether products of heterosexual or homosexual unions, deserve to learn early on how to not hate. You're helping this issue, period and end of story. If people want to label it "political" "inappropriate" whatever, so be it, when did we allow hatemongerers to call the shots?
But (shaking finger) you had better write a DailyKos diary about your experience at the Easter Egg Roll.

Hi! I actually heard on WBZ 1030 (news radio here in Boston) about that "alternative families" were going to the Egg Roll at the White House, but they also said that they think it is a "great way to get out there with your families, no matter if your family is one parent, two moms, two dads, or a mom and dad, never mind any of the other seemingly infinite possible combinations". Yay for Liberal Boston News!

Yeah, gotta love liberal Boston! :) (and the state for that matter) and 'protest' or not, it will be a lot of fun for Emma and us.
i promise. I am going to start writing now actually. We arrive in DC tomorrow, we won't be standing in line (get in too late, have to visit family), but we'll report on what we see and our experiences....
and its easter! so we have family to visit (emma is excited about seeing her cousins!), we are going to the zoo, church.. quite a weekend

I was going to say if you have time would love to meet you all but it sounds like you'll be very busy. Have a great weekend!

I loved your diary at dkos so I thought I would come and comment here. I am sorry you went through that ridiculous "therapy" in college. It amazes me that people still believe that being gay is a mental disorder. When you look at the suicide rates, it makes no sense at all.
