I eat tofu… _I_ must be gay
Excuse the line from In & Out (modified of course). Apparently, the World Net Daily (a news blog contributed to and read by many conservative leaders/pundits) had an exclusive commentary: A devil food is turning our kids into homosexuals. You guessed it, soy.. as in soy milk, tofu, edamame. Apparently, this “theory” has been circulating in religious right circles for a while now, but he brought it up again and everyone from Andrew Sullivan to Towleroad had to comment on it.
Well, in the vein of Jason’s post at Positive Liberty (where he showed a photo of his actual fridge filled with soy products), I have to confess. You see, I lived in Korea for 3 years. Ate lots of tofu. Guess I’m gay.
Ok, sorry. I made a new year’s resolution to focus more on the positive and less on rants/criticisms of others (sorry, election year did that to me). Just makes me and others feel better. Constructive and positive is better than critical, angry and negative.
But this was just too good to pass up (and it’s not the new year yet 
. Of course there is no citing of any acutal research. A search of “soy” and “homosexuality” Pubmed (THE database of scientific literature) brings up one article about well… feces and spirocetes (which were grown on a soy agar for study). A search for “soy” and “estrogen” brought up 700 some articles, but almost all on cancer. There are actually a lot of studies on phytoestrogen’s effect on humans. But, like this one, there is little to support either ‘feminization’, ‘homosexuality’ or whatever. There are changes, but mainly for good (reduced cancer risk, etc.). Anyway, I think there’d be a lot of Asians who’d find the conclusions of that writer well.. just a bit off.
Sometimes World Net Daily can be a parody of itself.

Hm… who knew that TOFU is now to become a gay stereotypical food! I’m not doing enough to keep my “gay card” .. it’ll be revoked one day.. perhaps I should eat more tofu, then!
