That was Emma's question yesterday after watching very rare hail come pounding down in hour San Francisco neighborhood late last night. It woke her up and we took her to the front door to watch it. Radek ran outside and scooped up a handfull (which she enjoyed and we put in the freezer for later inspection for our budding scientist).
Weird weather yesterday. Really strong winds, cold, hail. Then today: warm. It has nothing to do with global warmings (we've had weird weather before and will again), but it did get me to thinking about climate...(how's that for a seque?)
Recently, an in-law (not parents) called Gore a "freak."
I am not sure what the basis for that name is. His politics? The fact that he has become a climate change activist and gets proven more right year to year? That he won the popular vote? :). That he was right about Iraq in 2002?
Frankly, I voted for Gore reluctantly in 2000. I wished there were a better candidate. I voted for him because he was an alternative to Bush, who has proven to even many conservatives he's one of the worst presidents of the last century... or more.
But something has changed in Gore and Cohen, a columnist, writes what the change is and how it came to be.
The movie would be about a man who did not quit, who came off the canvas after a painfully close election -- he won the popular vote, after all -- who accepted defeat graciously and tried to unite the nation, who returned to the consuming passion of his earlier days, the environment, and spoke endlessly on the topic, almost always for free, who starred in a documentary based on his speech and who Sunday night, before a billion or so people, won an Academy Award for his effort. This may or may not be a stepping stone to the presidency, but Gore gives us all a lesson on how to live one's life.
Congratulations to Gore on his Oscar and his new life :).
Oh, Emma never did get her answer. She asked it lying in bed... and fell asleep before an answer could be formulated :).
