About those bees… (and bible prophecies)

Yeah, about those bees.

Reports now suggest that over 50% of bee hives in the U.S. are gone, over 70% in some of the areas first affected. A researcher here in San Francisco _might_ have found what is killing them, (here is another article on the subject) but it isn’t positive this is the cause yet and there is no easy remedy.

We do know that it isn’t cell phones (I didn’t think it was)…

but apparently some fundamentalist Christians are reading bible prophecy into it.. According to that article, this verse:

Revelation 6:6
Then I heard what sounded like a voice among the four living creatures, saying, “A quart of wheat for a day’s wages, and three quarts of barley for a day’s wages, and do not damage the oil and the wine!”

Their reasoning is that the passage suggests oil and wine, thus olives and grapes, aren’t do be damaged (by who?) and since olives and grapes don’t rely on bees to pollinate (which is right), somehow this obscure passage predicted this colony collapse.

Of course the passage makes it sound like wheat and barley WILL be damaged, but uh… those two crops aren’t pollinated by bees either. It’s a bit of a stretch. Guess we can read, and do, just about anything into scripture.

I’m wondering if perhaps I should stock up on honey and dried fruits, not that they will go extinct any time soon.. but the prices might rise, if they already haven’t.

Your web is right but there’s something else ….Albert Einstein once said that if the bees disappeared, “man would have only four years of life left”. and an old cuture can’t think of it right now but going ….that the world will end in 2012 ….so maybe with these bees disappearing we human will die in 2012. This is just my theroy tho.
