Marriage Equality Bill introduced in NY legislature

New York governor, as promised, introduced a bill that would give marriage equality to LGBT couples today. The governor conceded that the chance of passage is low, but crazier things have happened :) . Last year NY’s highest court rejected marriage equality. The chances might be low, but there is a chance…

From Emprire State Pride Agenda’s scorecard, it looks like the bill could pass the assembly, but it’s going to have a rough time passing the state senate.

There are some things you can do.

If you are a NY resident PLEASE contact your legislator (or if you know someone in NY, please ask them do it).

If you are in NY consider going to the LGBT Equality and Justice Day. It’s a lobbying day at the state legislature to get legislators to vote for marriage equality. A personal voice helps a lot.

And it’s not beyond possibility to change minds, this assemblyman in NY changed from opposition to support recently. And public support for marriage equality is growing in NY with now over 50% supporting same-sex marriage.

You know, as much as I want California to be the first state to pass marriage equality legislatively for the first time, I’ll concede that distinction to NY any day! (hey, I lived there for 6 years). ANYTHING to help me complete my homosexual agenda.
