She has lost her first tooth

Emma lost her first tooth on Tuesday. It's been wiggling for over a week now and every day Emma has asked me to check it and see if it was ready for pulling. She SOOOO wanted that tooth to come out. It's a big deal. It's like a coming-of-age. All the older kids in her class have started having their teeth come out. It means they are getting to be 'big kids' with 'big teeth'. For Emma, this is a sign she's becoming a big kid.

Tuesday we had a dentist appointment (she had to get some cavities filled :( ). I took this opportunity to tell Emma that if the dentist thought it was time to come out, we could have it pulled out. You see, this was my cowardly self allowing someone else to cause pain. I have been pushing this off for a while. I was hoping it would just fall out. I couldn't bear pulling it and hurting her, even if she wanted it so badly to come out.

Well, while under the laughing gas (can I just say, she acts so goofy under the influence, and that's saying a lot since she's naturally goofy), the dentist pulled it!

She's so proud...

As we walked out of the dentist's office, she stopped THREE strangers to tell them that her tooth is out.

I could not help but beam. Somehow her pride in becoming a 'big girl' just infected me. She just couldn't wait to tell the world.

We got home and she proudly showed Daddy and then everyone else.

She put it right under her pillow.

Overnight the tooth fairy put a card under her pillow and took the tooth. The card had 'fairy plant' seeds embedded in it (or so the note said, it does have flower seeds, just plant the card...) and inside was a note saying congratulations and reminding Emma to brush well every day (public-service announcement from the parent fairy who just paid 400 dollars to have two cavities filled)... it also had 5 dollars (apparently you get more for the first tooth! :D ). At one point there in the bed, she asked us if the tooth fairy was "real or not" and I asked her "what do you think?" She said "real" which I assume is the correct/safe answer if you want more things under your pillow for future teeth :D.

Emma woke the next morning and rushed to our room with the card. She had us open it. She was so excited. She's saving the money to buy a doll.

That day she said she was going to tell EVERY one of her friends (including and especially Q who she said didn't believe her that her tooth was coming out) and teachers her tooth came out.

She's so excited to be a big girl.

Last night she asked me where the "fairy dust" was. She was expecting to see some. I told her that... ah... well.. it sometimes took a bit to be able to be seen. Today, there is suddenly a trail of red fairy dust from the bed to the window. I guess she'll discover it this afternoon.

She is still in wonder of a world of fantasy, even as she's becoming a big girl.

I love this age.

How neat for her!! I had to watch Rebecca carefully or she'd yank out her teeth before they were ready just to have the tooth fairy show up.

Once she tried to double dip - hid the tooth and showed it to me again a few days later.

Didn't work.

LOL... double dipping :). Smart kid.

Emma wants to go to the dentist again and have them pull out her other tooth.

I think she'd have them pull all of them if she could.
