Really, a link is all it takes?

Towleroad reports that a Politico article. They are, along with a lot of other bloggers, criticizing Obama for being endorsed by a minister who plans to campaign for him. What is the criticism? That on the minister's church's website there is a link to an ex-gay ministry.

As much as I despise ex-gay ministries, for I've had my own horrible experiences with reparative therapy, but really are we going to start criticizing candidates for links of their supporters, links buried on extensive websites run by others of their organizations? Links that the supporter IMMEDIATELY apologizes for, is embarrassed by, acknowledges HE does not support and scrubs from the web site?

Listen, this is amazing that he is getting this criticism.

As politico says:

Sen. Barack Obama didn’t have to issue the challenge about homophobia in the African-American community – not in one of the nation’s premier black churches, not on the eve of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday – but he did it anyway.

And with conviction and beauty.

It's not the first time he spoke truth to power in the church's, it won't be the last.

Not only does Obama _consistently_ speak out directly and forcebly to the clergy and religious communities, black and white and other, for our rights, he does so often when they don't want to hear it. He speaks truth to power.

Additionally, his legislative record both in the Ill State senate and US Senate is _very_ pro-gay rights (that will download HRC's scorecard PDF).

AND his positions on gay rights issues, though not a whole lot different, are better than those of both Clinton and Edwards. For example, when it comes to marriage equality, it's a subtle but huge difference. Clinton and Edwards both support repealing half of DOMA, Obama supports repealing ALL of DOMA. That will make a HUGE difference to my family.

And yet, some in the gay community are saying he will be a disaster and is a fraud.

SO much for the 'reality-based' community.
