Haven't done a supper talk in a while. Here goes. Tomorrow for supper I'm making Sweet Potato Ravioli w/ Sage butter sauce. We've had it before and everyone loves it.
So, all the linky goodness:
When Columbus and the Europeans came upon this continent they brought back with them potatoes, tomatoes, pumpkins, turkeys and so much more. Like syphilis. It's always been suspected that syphilis came from here, carried back by Columbus' men, but new genomic research suggests it did indeed.
More links. Gay emperors, chocolate, melting ice....
Not only was Alexander the Great gay (probably a 5 on the scale of 1-6), apparently so was Roman Emperor Hadrian (closer to a 6 :). There is a new exhibit in London about him. If you are there, go see it :).
Well, the evidence just keeps piling up. Antarctic ice is melting faster than previously expected, 75% faster than last year. First the arctic, now the antarctic. The news just gets worse and worse and worse than the worst case scenarios. Sigh.
Chocolate is good. Recent news suggests it's good for you. BUT... well, of course there is a but (not butt), the 'good' in chocolate are the anti-oxidants from "flavanols." Sadly, a lot of chocolate has those taken out when being made.. and you can't tell from the package which this is true of and which it isn't. They suggest eating dark, dark chocolate with few ingredients.
I want a new flat panel LCD TV (ours was stolen :( ), but right now we can't afford it. Anyway, they are energy hogs and given the melting of the ice caps as mentioned above, maybe it's best we didn't... though Philips is coming out with a new eco-friendly flat panel LCD TV! Uses a LOT less electricity both when running and in standby and uses a lot fewer toxic minerals (lead, mercury) than other LCDs. Hey, and the box is from recycled materials.
I think this man meant this to be funny haha, but really, put Jew in to replace Mormon. Sounds pretty bad.
Personal genomics... it's coming....
Well, that's some of the reading I've done in the last few days :)
