Key Endorsement for Obama

Emma.

If you remember from last week, Emma has been an avid supporter of Clinton for months.

Well, yesterday morning she came down to my office and sat on my lap. She looked at a video I had up of Obama. She pointed to him and said:

"I changed my mind"

Here is the rest of her conversation, as best as I can remember it.

"I decided it will be good with me if Barack Obama is president"

"It will be good with me if Hillary Clinton is president"

"I would like if Obama were president"

and then...

"We were learning about people for black history month. We learned about Martin Luther King."

"Can I take that (the video I was watching) with me to school to show the class?"

I answered that would be difficult but we could print off a picture of his family.

"Ok, let's do that"

As it was printing.

"Let's go on the innernet and find information about him"

So we went to barackobama.com about page and wrote down on the back some things we found out about him. He was born in Hawaii, his father was from Africa and his mother from Kansas...

"Do you know where Kansas is Emma?"

"Yes, it's where Dorothy lives"

We found out he went to Harvard, was a community organizer (helped people get work and voting done) a state senator and is now a senator...

"Just like Hillary!"

Yep.

Emma was a little concerned that we wouldn't be able to get all that information on the back of the photo, but I told her we'd just put the 'highlights'.

She took it to school and showed the class proudly the information she found.

Now, I PROMISE, I have not tried to convince her to support Obama ;)... it's just well.. I guess the overwhelming support he has among her peers and in the community and the fact that it was black history month made her reconsider. (and what a fitting historical note that would be if he clinches the nomination this month :).

Not that she's given up on Hillary completely.

Last night at dinner she said...

"Daddy and Papa, I want you to vote for Hillary"

I explained we already voted and then said I thought she changed her mind.

"I didn't say I was going to vote for Obama. I _said_ that it would be all right with me if he were president"

Oh.

Well, that's fine with me :).

I hadn't visited in awhile and I am just pleased as punch by the changes in Emma, how much she has grown, and how thoughtful and engaged she is... though with two dads like you, how could she not be?! I can only hope that my Dao will turn out half as interested and engaged as she is. I'll definitely be back more often. And this certainly is a historical moment in the states. I only wish that they could both run for office, rather than Democrats having to choose between them to run against a Republican. ahhh well! (I'm a Canadian)

oops, in the last comment, I didn't write "who is the author of this post"... deary me... what happens then?

oh, I see! if we answer "trey", it doesn't go into moderation!

Welcome back cluttergirl!

hasn't she though? She amazes us often.

(yeah, that answering 'trey' thing has really helped cut spam)
