Update on the Household

Really, sorry. Having a hard time getting back to this blog I LOVE. But I'll continue going on! So, here are some updates for you:

1. Emma is gorgeous, smart, funny, fun, happy and has 'big emotions' but you knew that :D.

2. Emma just had her special services evaluation (she's attended speech classes since she was a bit delayed, for the last 3 years). She is now at or above her age-level in pretty much every criteria (verbal expression, understanding, etc). There was a few things she could work on (but isn't that true for us all) but she's doing great.

3. We just restarted our fost-adopt process. Look for more and more posts about that process as in the next few months things should be happening (cross fingers).

4. Our summer plans are solidifying. We will be in Mexico for a short while (5 days?), London on a working vacation for two weeks and Germany/SurroundingCountries for 9 days or so for vacation. And we'll be staying in Hawaii as we do most summers for a while. Yes, we are lucky! The teachers suggested we help Emma keep a journal and scrapbook of her journey's. This will help prepare her for 1st grade. We'll have a little scrapbook we'll have her label and write in and look foward to some posts from her this summer :D

5. We've been reading the first book of Harry Potter the last while, on chapter 10 tonight! She's loving it. I have a question though, why is it that SOOO many children's books (read: James and the Giant Peach, Harry Potter, et al.) start with the parent's dying?! Sigh. Well, anyway, she loves it, understands it and I love reading it to her. That's going to HAVE to be a post soon. There is so much going on there.

6. We _think_ we _might_ have found Emma's birthmother online. What do you do with that kind of information? We are filing it away I guess in case it ever is needed.

7. We did the public school lottery in San Francisco again this year. We didn't get ANY of our 7 choices and they put us in a school at the bottom 10%. So, considering our independent school indexed our tuition nicely, we are staying where we are (and we LOVE the school, Emma her friends and us the community).

8. Oh and guess what? This blog was nominated for Best of Blogs award. Voting starts next month. Whoever nominated, thank you :D.

9. I guess I got to get to blogging more..

I believe so many children's stories start with parents dying because it is the parents' job to protect children. If you are going to have a story in which a child does something heroic, you have to have a good reason why the parent wasn't there preventing the need.

Well, that actually makes a lot of sense from a literary point of view.

I think I'm a bit more sensitive about it than Emma, she seems to not take it personally (and we'd know if she did :) or be upset by it. In fact she loves Harry Potter and James and the Giant Peach (which we've read twice). The next book in the wings will have a girl heroine :).
