It's been forever and a day since I posted. Sorry, just life (good things!). I'm not going to promise I'll post more (though I hope to), but I have to post today.
Tomorrow the California Supreme Court will rule on our relationship's legal equality. Same-sex marriage or something less.
For Guy and I it's been a long history.
In 1996 we met (though we had known each other before in college) and fell in love.
In December of 1997 we had a commitment ceremony (I used to have a web page of that, don't know where it is now :( )
In 2000, we registered as Domestic Partners in the state of California.
In 2002, we adopted our dear daughter.
In 2004, we were "married" in the San Francisco weddings instigated by Gavin Newsom (and those marriages are the ones that lead to the court case about to be decided tomorrow).
In 2005, our DP was enhanced by the legislature.
Now, in 2008 we'll see if we reach full equality. The rumors are not good. I hope they are false one.s

Trey, it is good to see you back, at least for a post! and you're right, this is totally the type of thing that you'd want to post about, even after such a long hiatus :-)
reading this post now, it hit me how much I miss your voice. it's the little things... i think it's your certain sentence structure and your use of smileys :-) , i always sense a likeable absent-minded NFP biologist behind your words or something, i don't know! (that, and you were my first queer parenting blog i ever discovered, and so perhaps i'm a little bit biassed to your site)
all to day good to hear back from you, and i'm glad that it was good things in life that got in your way of blogging!
i'll be googling on their decision tomorrow, btw. i remember it being so surprising (rather gladly surprising though), that first time i heard on the news that same-sex marriage was legal in Ontario.

I look forward to the day when same sex couples won't have to break down their relationship in stages (ceremonies, registering, marriages, etc.) and can just go and get married like everyone else...wishing and hoping for the very best.
Time goes by so fast...I remember when I first starting reading your blog and look how grown your daughter is...one of the reasons this has to happen...she deserves to know and have the security that her parents are afforded the same rights as everyone else.

It's an interesting time in history, isn't it? So many changes happening so quickly. And so many things that need to be changed. I am interested to hear what will happen.
Good luck to you all!

Yes!!!
Now we just have to survive the constitutional amendment that's sure to follow.
I called my son - he's overjoyed. Who knows; he might find the right person someday.

Ann,
I think it will survive for two reasons...
polls show the amendment (if on hte ballot, still a question) does not have the support to pass, or it's close anyway, so we have a chance to defeat it.
and
legal scholars are saying that the supreme court's decision says that this is an 'equal protection clause' and that the amendment would be invalid unless it elminates the clause (which it doesn't) or modifies it directly (which it doesn't).
