Kid’s fitness room in my gym

We don’t have one. But why not?
We go to 24 hour fitness (when I’m in SF, 2-3 times a week) and one has a kid’s corner, which is nice. It allows me or Guy to go to the gym when we otherwise might not be able to. But, it’s just a small room with a TV and a plastic ‘house’. So, Emma plays a bit with the kids and then watches TV. I’ve seen several other gyms with similar ‘kid’s corners’, TV and a plastic house. Or just a TV. Isn’t that defeating the purpose of a gym? The parent gets fit while the kid watches TV?
Here’s an idea…
Set up a larger room with kid-friendly activities that encourage physical activities. Perhaps a larger crawl tunnel space, a few Wii fits (or similar) with snowboarding, a biking race, bowling. Add a few creative toys and exercise-enducing games (Twister anyone?) and voila, kid’s gym in your gym. Yes, in the cost of space and childcare, it would cost more. But as an urban parent, it would be a great way for both of us to get some physical activity in. Of course we already walk a lot (we walk to the grocery store, most errands, etc), but after school there isn’t much of an easily accessible ‘yard’ to go to. Yes, we can go to parks (and do), and yes, we probably should go more often (there are several within walking distance), and we will and should add more physical activity into our daily lives, but still.. this would also be a great boon.
So, 24 Hour Fitness? Someone? game for it?

The YMCA that we used to go to had an awesome kids room with climbing walls, foosball, a big tunnel/slide thing like the ones in big McDonalds, gymnastics mats, etc.
Our Crossfit gym is so awesome because the kids are always using the ropes/rings/bars/etc before and after the workouts. Asa has even done the workouts with us on occasion!
Reply to RobinEverywhere there are repports on child obestity, and yet these gyms fail to give the kids a place to run around and play. Strange, really strange.
PS Stockholm Pride just started, I will go to look at the parade on Saturday if it’s not raining since I have a few gay friends that wil participate.
